Leesburg Florida nursing home lawyer discusses the 6 potential signs of nursing home abuse or neglect.

Nursing homes serve an important purpose in the healthcare system. They provide a place for folks to undergo short-term rehabilitation after a surgery, so they can regain their activities of daily living and go back home. Nursing homes also provide a place for long term care for residents who are no longer able to take care of themselves.

There are a number of Central Florida nursing homes and assisted living facilities that do a great job caring for their residents. On the other hand, there are a few facilities and chains that focus on profits over people and the inadequate staffing or working environment put our loved ones at risk.

If you suspect that your family member or friend is not be taken care of properly or potentially being abused, your concerns should be investigated at the facility and state levels. Below I have provided six signs of nursing home negligent and/or abuse:

  1. Malnourishment or dehydration
  2. Multiple falls
  3. Bedsores, pressure sores, decubitus ulcers
  4. The nurses' failure to notify a physician or family member of a change in condition or injury at the facility
  5. Improper monitoring of the resident; and/or
  6. The failure to order and administer proper medication

Remember, abuse and neglect aren't confined to the nursing home. These problems can occur whenever a vulnerable person is dependent on the care of others. We can see these issues with in-home caretakers and ancillary staff at assisted living facilities.
